• THUNDER FOR THE TITANS: The student section at North Oconee High School cheered for the Titans Sept. 11 against Union County with Thunderstix donated by Fox's Pizza Den, a corporate sponsor for the Titan Club.
• LIONS CLUB DONATES TO MERCY HEALTH CENTER: Don Truluck, president of the Oconee Lions Club, presents a refurbished Automated External Defibrilator (AED) unit to Christel Lavelle, physician's assistant, Mercy Health Center, and Tracy Thompson, executive director of Mercy Health Center. The staff at MHC will use the Automated External Defibrilator to ensure the safety of patients. Members of the Oconee Lions Club are among more than 400 volunteers who have donated time to MHC in 2008 and 2009.
• POLICE GRADUATES: Deputies Gregory Harn, Timothy Lyon and Thomas York graduated from the Athens Regional Police Academy Aug. 28.
• VOICEOVER FOR DSW: Mallory Moye was recently selected for voiceover work for a new set of television ads for DSW Shoe Warehouse. Moye is the voice of the "gray shoe" as well as the announcer at the end of all of the commercials. She is a recent graduate of the Stella Adler Studio at New York University and is a 2005 graduate of Athens Academy.
• AP SCHOLAR AWARDS: Carolina Baca and Michelle Hansey of the Athens Christian School Class of 2009, recently earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement exams. Baca, recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholarship, which funds all expenses for her four years of undergraduate work, is currently enrolled at UGA. Hansey is attending Georgia Tech. Both students entered this fall with college credits on their transcripts.
• STUDY ABROAD: Laura Eaton of Watkinsville has been awarded the 2009 National Security Education Program David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships for language study abroad during the 2009-10 academic year. Eaton, who is also pursuing a minor in French at UGA, is currently studying
